We have lost count of how many plans we have made and canceled since I’ve been diagnosed with my heart condition in 2015. Every time it leaves a little scar with me of another opportunity missed in a short life, even for an average healthy person, let alone someone with a terminal illness. Today is one of those opportunities missed. We should be running in the Snickers Marathon & Half Marathon It hurts even more because it was Ashley‘s wish to do it for a birthday trip. I can deal more with having to cancel something that I wanted to do, but it is harder to accept when my illness affects others.

When it became clear that running wasn’t going to be an option for the foreseeable future, Ashley contacted the organizers about our situation. They were very accommodating and sympathetic to not being able to participate. The following is an excerpt from the email from Rashelle, the Race Director:

I have left Brandon in the race so I can have one of my board members run with his number. After the race I will mail you the medal, race number and race packet. While I realize this is just a small token in the grand scheme of battles you are facing, I pray this will give you a little ray of sunshine. Brandon will be prayed for and thought of during the time our board member is running.

So thank you to Snickers Marathon & Half Marathon and Rashelle.
