15 Years and Then…

Sometimes being in crappy situations lead to sublime situations. With the amount of time that I have spent in the hospital over the past 4 months so many times, experiences, people have crossed my mind. One friend crossed my mind last week was my friend, Adam, I met my freshman year in college and I remembered that I hadn’t talked to him in at least 15 years. The last time that I had tried to locate him on Facebook, or any social media

platform for that matter, were unsuccessful. But I searched again, this time finding him. The next day he accepted my friend request and we started chatting. Within hours Adam asked if it was cool to come down and visit. So this week, he flew down from Maryland. It was very helpful for me to have someone to bring myself outside of my head, as we discussed the things that we did in college, current events, politics,

philosophy, it wasn’t even hurtful when he became the ultimate victor at MarioKart. Thank you again, Adam, for making the trip!

Yesterday afternoon I had a right heart catheterization, biopsy and echocardiogram. The results came back as good as everyone hoped. Things are stable right now, my ejection fraction (EF) right now is estimated to be 35-40%. The heart is still moving about 6 liters of blood per minute. Of course, this would not be possible without the assistance of the milrinone drip boosting my heart. The preliminary biopsy came back with no rejection, but this is always stressed as the preliminary results. Since in November the preliminary results showed only minor rejection. The more important results for my case will be in a week or so.

On the transferring facilities front, we have heard back from Stanford and unfortunately Dr. Teuteberg feels that I  am very high risk retransplant candidate, and he was not inclined to take on this risk. We still have not heard back either way from UCLA. Cedars-Sinai has requested more of my health records and will be discussing my case.
